Market Basket: The Rules
The Good:
- Almost always the best everyday prices on groceries. (That applies to almost everything that is not a “specialty” grocery store item.)
- No loyalty card needed.
- They usually start changing over their prices on Saturday afternoon/evening for the next week’s sales, so you can sometimes get the sale prices for the current week as well as the following week’s sale if you time your trip correctly.
- They have lots of good quality generics (Market Basket brand products) that will save you tons of money. Our personal favorites in terms of most savings over the name brands are their bread and tortilla chips.
The Bad:
- No coupon doubling (but many times their prices are SO much better than other stores that you don’t even need double coupons to get a better price. )
- They don’t usually offer the deepest sales on their items, but again, their starting prices are lower.
- Their stores can be hit-or-miss in the cleanliness/organization department. (I’m lucky to live in an area (Northern MA) with a good supply of relatively clean stores.)
The Ugly:
- The worst news about Market Basket/DeMoulas supermarkets is that they are only found in the Northeast. (Sorry to all of you “everywhere elsers.”)
