Donate to AnySoldier.com

I wanted to bring your attention to an amazing cause that I learned of last year.  The website is called “AnySoldier.com” and it’s a way for individuals to send care packages to soldiers, which in itself is not an amazing concept.  What I like about AnySoldier is that you can check the website to find out what specific troops need (because climates can be very different in different areas) plus, (my favorite part) the leader of the particular troop you choose gives the care package to a soldier who doesn’t get a lot of mail.  If that doesn’t give you the warm fuzzies, I don’t know what will.  Even just writing a letter to one of these homesick service people can make a huge difference in their day.

Why am I writing about this on my money saving blog?

My husband’s work just had a collection for AnySoldier and we donated a bunch of stuff:

About 7 tubes of toothpaste (all bought for cheap or free)

3 sticks of deoderant (all cheap with sales and coupons)

1 package of Bic pens (free)

2 Schick Women’s Razors ($.99 for both)

1 bottle of mouthwash (cheap with sale and coupon)

1 bottle of Men’s body wash (cheap with sale and coupon)

Plus, a whole bunch of Beanie Babies (which the soldiers give to the local children) that a family member gave to us to donate.

The coolest thing is that even though money is tight for everyone these days, we were able to help a bunch of people, and I would estimate that this whole slew of stuff cost no more than $10 out of pocket.  With some quick math, I’m estimating that this would have cost about $52 retail.

What can you do to help out?
